Vellum is a translucent material - light and dark can be seen through it. All of the pictures show a shaped piece of white paper with the word "Translucent" placed immediately behind the sheet of vellum so you can see the effect.
Vellum is ideal for embossing - when pressure is applied it turns opaque.
It makes an ideal window material for aperture cards, hiding the inside of the card, but letting the light through.
A pricking tool can be used to make fine holes in the vellum, with or without a pricking template, to give very pretty effects.
Vellum can be punched and cut with normal craft tools.
Please be aware that normal glues and glue dots will be visible through the vellum so use special vellum glue or glue dots if this is a problem with the particular application you need it for. Some double-sided tape will not show though, but try a bit first!
